The S Series

Meet the SuperMac S900 and S910. Our team of Silicon Valley pros (seasoned veterans who had worked at Apple Computer and Sun Microsystems, designing Macintoshes and Sun workstations) started with the Power Macintosh 9500 as a model. A good starting point -- but we knew we could do better.

The first thing we addressed was the computer architecture. Yes, a fast processor helps your computer perform better -- but only if its architecture is well-balanced. Otherwise, your computer experiences bottlenecks in its I/O subsystem. The SuperMac S Series' architecture eliminates traditional bottlenecks.

We then incorporated every cutting edge feature we could think of in order to protect your investment. With the rapid-fire changes that occur in the computer marketplace, it doesn't make sense to buy a machine that will be obsolete in a few months, which is why the S Series is tremendously flexible.

You can upgrade the S Series with faster PowerPC 604e processors as they become available by swapping in a new primary processor card -- beats replacing the entire motherboard. In addition, our Advanced Scalable Processor Design makes the S Series the only personal desktop computer on the market that can be upgraded to a multi-processor machine simply by adding a second card, the P-series processor. You have plenty of expansion capability and upgrade options with the S Series' six PCI slots and seven drive bays. And you no longer need to perform open-heart surgery on your computer in order to plug in those extra DIMMs or PCI cards because the S Series' widely praised user-friendly design makes it easy to upgrade.

We then added a few performance-enhancing touches, such as an exclusive PCI-to-PCI Bridge, which enables the six PCI slots to communicate directly and efficiently between each other rather than having to be routed through your main memory. The minimum four Megabytes of VRAM gives you high-resolution images in millions of colors, and the IX Micro Twin Turbo Video/Graphics Accelerator card provides snappy screen redraws. Also, every S900 and S910 comes standard with at least 16 Megabytes of interleaved memory, expandable to over 1 Gigabyte, providing a super-wide 128-bit data path to the processor.

Need more? Upgrade options such as the P-series processor, which allow you to make the jump to a dual processor system. This is acheived through DayStar's nPOWER Multiprocessing Technology, which is a fully compatible standard that's used by Apple and DayStar with an added twist... A.S.P.D! The E100 Extended Performance Card, which provides Ultra-Wide SCSI III and 100Base-T Ethernet, is a simple and inexpensive way to bring your S900 up to a level of performance usually found on workstations costing thousands of dollars more. (The E100 Extended Performance Card was included in all S910's.)
