C500/C600 Memory Information

support sub-menu

The SuperMac C500 and C600 are based on Umax' Alchemy logic board design. The same logic board is used in both systems, so the same rules and specifications apply.

  • C500 - 16MB EDO DRAM soldered to logic board, 2 DIMM slots (144MB maximum DRAM)
  • C600 - 16MB EDO DRAM soldered to logic board, 2 DIMM slots (144MB maximum DRAM)

DIMM slots are located along the lower edge of the logic board in the C600 and the left edge of the logic board in the C500. Either slot may be filled first. Memory expansion in both systems is very simple, but the following points should be considered.

  • Extended Dynamic Output (EDO) Memory - EDO is a subset of Fast Page DRAM which offers enhanced output capabilities. The benefit is comparable to that of Interleaving memory in other SuperMac systems, but the benefit can be gained from a single DIMM rather than requiring identical DIMMs to be paired.

  • Use of Fast Page DRAM - The C Series computers can utilize standard Fast Page DRAM with a marginal performance decrease relative to EDO memory. Fast Page and EDO memory may be used simultaneously in the C Series, but the performance boost will only occur in read/write operations to the EDO DIMM (and to the 16MB on the logic board). Because memory allocation is somewhat dynamic within a session, is would be very difficult to predict whether or not 100% of a given application's memory operations are transpiring within the faster EDO space.
